One year at Bookfactory – The experiences of Bu in retrospect

When I joined Bookfactory last year, I had no idea what exciting adventures and unforgettable moments awaited me. Today, on my first birthday, I’m sitting comfortably in my favourite armchair and looking through the colourful pages of my personal yearbook. I am reviewing the past year in my mind…

«I captured almost every moment with my camera – you can follow my life on Instagram.
You can find my adventures in the highlights under Bu.»

But now back to my yearbook. On the first few pages, I discover photos from production. I see myself jumping around on our printing machine and marvelling at your beautiful photos. I see how I bound a book for the first time and learnt a lot of technical things from our Head of Digital Production Roland. I now know how to print a canvas or which glue to use for which binding!

On the next double page, I discover a few VIPs! We are all VIPs, of course, but these gentlemen are already great role models for me. I had the honour of interviewing Renato Gerussi, Rainer Eder and Corrado Filipponi with Claudia. You can find the result on our blog. It was so exciting, I tell you!

I proudly flick through the pages and see the photos of the various discount campaigns in marketing. It was interesting to plan strategies with Christian and see how our customers reacted to them. I felt like a small tactician in a big, creative battle for the attention of people interested in photo books.

I discover the highlight on the next page. My first trip to a faraway country in North America. The dream beaches, the smell of tacos and chilli – it was as if I was immersed in another world. The people, the traditions, the food – everything was so different. I was particularly impressed by the underwater world! Colourful fish, exotic sea creatures – I felt like I was in a fairy tale from the depths of the ocean.

On my return, I naturally designed a photo book to capture all the magical moments. Sylvie and Heidi from customer service helped me with this. I picked up a few design tips from Larissa and Olivia. Nobody has as much style as these two graphic designers! I still had a few questions as I wanted to create something special and was grateful for their help. I can see from my beaming face in the photo when I was allowed to pick up the book from my colleagues in production, Jusuf and Mirjana, that I am completely satisfied.

A little further on, I discover a photo of my card to my mum, who lives in London. In my letter, I tell her about my experiences at Bookfactory. How much I like it here and how much I’m learning every day. A few tears well up in my eyes, because I already miss my mum.

On the next page I discover all the new features we have introduced. We have worked very hard and the result is really impressive! Reto and Fabian have shown me all the technical details behind these changes. Very complex, I tell you! But the two clever minds didn’t forget a single detail. A few changes in quick succession: New formats and papers for the photo books, more sustainability for the photo calendars, new templates for the cards and calendars, new paper for the cards and posters and last but not least: beautiful new advent calendar designs!

Today, on my first birthday, I’m grateful for the experiences and friendships I’ve been able to make. I feel at home here at Bookfactory!

«If you can find out where I went on holiday, you have the chance to win one of three vouchers worth CHF 100 for the entire Bookfactory range! To make it a little easier for you, you can choose between four answers. Good luck!»
