We’ve put together some helpful information to quickly introduce you to our Flatbook photo books and their specifications.
How is a Flatbook different from other photo books?
Flat photo books use a different binding technique that allows the pages to lay completely flat when open—without damaging the spine or binding. This means there is no crease in the middle of the spread, allowing your photos to be printed seamlessly from left to right.
Flatbook pages are also much thicker than regular photo book pages. That’s because the pages are glued back-to-back, ensuring they stay flat when the book is open. In contrast, perfect-bound books use a strong and flexible adhesive to bind the pages to the spine, which prevents them from lying flat.
What kind of binding is used for Flatbook albums?
We use a flat lay binding technique for our books. The pages are glued together back-to-back, making the paper noticeably thicker. The first and last end sheets are placed into the inside cover, which is then glued to the outer endpapers.

Are there different types of paper available for Flatbook albums?
Yes, we offer three different types of photo paper:
Munken Polar Smooth
Our Premium Flat, Flat Plus, and Flat Open photo books are printed on exclusive natural paper (Munken Polar Smooth). This uncoated paper has a smooth surface and a high whiteness level, giving your book an elegant yet natural look.
Glossy Photo Paper
Glossy photo paper has a smooth, high-shine finish that enhances vibrant colors and fine details. It’s a great choice for animal and nature photography or macro shots where you want every detail to pop.
If you prefer your photos to have a glossy look, this is the perfect paper choice for your book.
Matte Photo Paper
Matte photo paper has a soft, non-reflective surface that creates a more artistic look. Since matte paper tends to soften colors, it’s an ideal choice for black-and-white photography, portrait photography, and professional portfolios—any time you don’t want overly vivid colors to distract from your subject or composition.

Are all book sizes available as Flatbooks?
- Premium Flat, Flat Plus: Carré & Standard
- Flat Open: Signature, Carré, A4
- Photographic: Standard portrait, Carré, Maxi landscape, Wide landscape, Jumbo landscape
How many pages can a Flatbook have?
The minimum number of pages is 16. You can add more pages in increments of 4. The maximum number of pages for a Flatbook is 100. An exception is the Signature Photo Book, which can include up to 160 pages. However, for aesthetic reasons, we recommend not exceeding 120 pages, as the open spine can create a noticeable gap between the spine and the pages beyond that point.

What kind of book can I create?
We believe our Flatbook photo books look great with any kind of photo and theme, but certain images really shine:
Travel or Landscape
If you captured breathtaking photos during a vacation, print them across a full spread to highlight all the vibrant details and colors.
Landscape photography is perfect for panoramic shots that span two full pages.
Portfolio
A full double-page spread gives you creative freedom to place text next to horizontal images, showcase multiple shots, and create stunning layouts that tell the story of your best work. Size and paper type make a difference, so choose from landscape, portrait, or square formats.

Weddings
Highlight unique moments and showcase stunning group photos from the ceremony in wide-angle layouts.
You can design personalized wedding books using our wedding-themed layouts—or why not create your own custom template?
