The importance of pressure at Bookfactory | Swiss quality

As a traditional bookbindery that has its origins in the production of books in the handicraft as well as industrial area, the term «print» stands for many things for us.

First and foremost, as a digitally based bookbindery, we are still the ones who transform the «print» into your final physical product – namely the book. Thus, the industrial production of products in large editions is just as close to our hearts as the small digital and personalized orders or the handcrafted demanding designs, which only a few in Switzerland can still offer.

The change in the market

The media world has been under «pressure» for years, struggling with stagnating circulations and falling prices. The change in the market shifted its process methods from classical printing methods more and more to digital ones. This has led to the emergence of several new, innovative business models in recent years that use short-run customization to meet the demand for print-on-demand products in the market.

We at Bookfactory are proud to be able to support the up-and-coming young wrestler Noe van Messel as a partner.

Bookfactory also took the next step and built up «print» internally – literally. Not an easy step in 2004. Suddenly, Buchbinderei Burkhardt AG, as a bookbinder and last in the process chain in the production of the physical book, pushed its way into the print market and wanted to get in on the action. Thus, at that time, the internal development of a digital print shop began, with the vision of combining our know-how in bookbinding with the production of personalized photo books – and as one of the first in the Swiss market.

The constant process of further development

We have always been able to evolve over the years, using the «pressure» of the transformation to digital, if possible, as a momentum to reorient ourselves. In the period following the establishment of digital «printing» here at Bookfactory, the demand for short-run print products became increasingly popular with customers. Digitization in business models also changed customer needs towards the services provided. Complex applications allow customers to create their photo projects, which they can order through our online and offline channels and have produced as needed.

As for Noe, it is also important for our further development to be dynamic and consistent.

Different types of «print»

The «print» now comes digitally from our customers – and that’s a positive «print». Whether it’s a photo book or recipe book, a graduation project or portfolio, all designed memories and creations are created by the customer and come through the fiber optic cable at «high pressure» directly to us for production. To offer the promised and unique quality is not always easy and so sometimes a «misprint» can occur with us, which can lead to an «overpressure» with a customer 🙂

Personally, I think we did a great job and handled the constant «pressure» very well in all areas. So we can be more than satisfied with the quality of our print products and the final bound result, and we always shine with our customers.
