Many people wish to write their own life stories. And often don’t do it, too big and extensive seems the undertaking.
This is exactly where Edition Unik comes in. In a guided process one learns to structure one’s own history, one’s own biography, to divide it into chapters and to write it down. At the end there is a bound book – the story of a life. Whether fictitious or real is left to the authors. Bookfactory supports the project on a partnership basis; we print and bind the finished books.
What is Edition Unik?
Edition Unik is not a publishing house, but a cultural project initiated by Zürcher Heller Enterprises – the company of Martin Heller, the artistic director of expo.02. Together with its partners, Edition Unik is concerned “with recovering the wealth of experience and memory that exists in our society in the form of self-written stories. We believe that Edition Unik creates a real added value in quality of life for its participants”, as the motivation of Edition Unik reads.
“While I was writing, I often thought, “Hei, I’ve experienced all this.”

The course
Edition Unik takes place twice a year in Zurich and Basel. The basic programme lasts a total of 17 weeks with a defined start and end date and – of course – an editorial deadline, which is a good motivation to complete the story in good time. A proprietary writing software guides you through the process so that you can write your book wherever you want. On four occasions, at the beginning, at the end and twice during the course, all participants come together to exchange ideas and get to know each other. During the course there are weekly newsletters with important information and the project team supports the participants by phone and e-mail.

The Book
All participants will receive two free copies of their book. Further copies can be ordered at a preferential price from Bookfactory. Here you can find out exactly what the linen-covered hardcover books look like, who designed them and how they are made:
